A Unique Cure for Writer's Block
The Rijksmuseum contains a truly unique cure for writer's block. Anna Roemers Visscher was the daughter of a renowned poet and, with her sister, was part of a famous circle of poets, playwrights, and artists known as the Muiderkring. She was a poet and an engraver of glass. This glass was a gift for playwright Constantijn Huygens. In addition to his name, she engraved on it a poem asking him to dip the glass in the muse's well and return it to her to cure her writer's block. On behalf of those of us who deal with writer's block by typing nonsense words and going on social media, may I just say: can we have a sip first?
